Cupcakegate?

Posted by: Bob Quinn on December 15, 2010 at 4:56 pm

It’s Christmas. It’s time to make merry. It’s time for some cheer.  Yet, inexplicably, Public Knowledge has suddenly adopted an anti-cupcake agenda.  For many years AT&T has provided sweets to policymakers as well as journalists and others, who we work with daily.  Used to be cookies, now it’s cupcakes.  We just figured that after being served hot coffee and waffles the Commission was up for something sweeter.  Perhaps Public Knowledge is just upset that we didn’t send any to them. Well consider it done.  They’re on the way.

It’s ironic. AT&T gives FCC staffers cupcakes that cost maybe two bucks; Public Knowledge gives them a full “hot breakfast,” worth a lot more, and then claims that AT&T is trying to buy influence with the cupcakes.

Looks like the waffle iron is calling the oven black.

Clearly, to fund a more expensive treat than AT&T, Public Knowledge must really be bringing home the bacon from Google (sorry, Harold).

What about those of us that pay for your services? I want a freaking cup cake. We pay approx 3600 a year for our cell phones.

Can you at least give all of your customers a freaking Merry Christmas credit, since we are the ones that keep you in business?

Thanks

PK has business before the commission? The FCC regulates PK? You’re so right, the cases are identical.

Actually, PK does have business before the Commission. Both in its own name and on behalf of Google, for which it lobbies.

AT&T? You’re that company that spied on Americans for President Bush then got congress to pass a law so it retroactively wasn’t a crime. Swaying people with cupcakes is the least of your wrongs.

Yes, George, and AT&T also conspired with Halliburton and Cheney for protecting energy securit— scratch that… OIL IMPERIALISM!!!!1! /sarcasm

One other thing worth noting. When Public Knowledge fed waffles to FCC staffers, it also served up a specific lobbying message – telling the FCC to regulate the Internet.

However, I cannot seem to find a notice of an ex parte presentation in the FCC docket in connection with the waffle breakfast.

That’s right: Public Knowledge actually violated the FCC’s ex parte rules – ones they’ve claimed should be not only honored but strengthened – with its waffle debacle.

AT&T, on the other hand, just had some Christmas cupcakes delivered.
